The Beauty in Everyday Rituals In our fast-paced and hectic lives, it's easy to overlook the beauty in the everyday tasks and rituals that make up our daily routines. But what if we could transform these mundane moments into something truly special? With my handcrafted pottery and ceramics, I aim to bring a sense of calm and peace to your everyday rituals, turning them into moments of beauty and reflection. In 2020 when the pandemic first emerged and shook up our world in ways we never could have imagined, I went through a drastic lifestyle change (didn't we all?). I was never one who was good at sitting home and "doing nothing." I was always trying to make plans, to have something to fill my days. When I couldn't do that anymore, I knew I had to find a way to exist within the walls of my home without absolutely losing my mind. I decided to embrace it. I started getting weekly flower deliveries (where my love for Iceland Poppies first blossomed), I scheduled regular (virtual) yoga classes, I read books, drank coffee, and watched movies. My husband and I created schedules for our days so we could learn how to live happily and comfortably in our new situation (okay, I created the schedules, but he followed them!). Our schedules included individual time for each of us, family time, and family walks. Some of these days hold my favorite memories, and they also taught me how to slow down and savor every part of my day.
When making these pieces, beauty isn't the only goal. Yes, I want them to look good. Like pieces of art, even. But there is so much more to a mug than that. It is never just about aesthetics - it is about functionality and comfort. All of my pieces are ergonomically designed to be held multiple ways that ensure a comfortable grip, making your morning coffee or tea even more enjoyable.
And it's not just about the mug itself - it's about the ritual that surrounds it. It is the vessel to help get you there. I understand the importance of these everyday tasks and I encourage you to savor them. Whether it's taking a few moments to enjoy a quiet cup of tea in the morning, or gathering with loved ones for a shared meal, these rituals have the power to ground us and bring a sense of peace to our lives.
Here are a few tips that have helped me embrace the art of everyday rituals:
1. Create a dedicated space: Set aside a small area in your home where you can engage in your daily rituals. It could be a cozy corner with a comfortable chair and a small table, or a serene outdoor spot where you can enjoy your morning coffee.
2. Choose meaningful objects: Surround yourself with objects that bring you joy and enhance your rituals. Whether it's a handcrafted mug, a beautiful tablecloth, or a favorite piece of artwork, these objects can elevate your everyday experiences.
3. Slow down and savor the moment: Instead of rushing through your rituals, take the time to fully immerse yourself in them. Pay attention to the sights, sounds, and smells around you. Engage all your senses and allow yourself to be fully present in the moment.
4. Share the experience: Invite loved ones to join you in your rituals. Whether it's cooking a meal together, enjoying a cup of tea with a friend, or gathering around the table for a family dinner, these shared experiences can deepen your connections and create lasting memories.
You are going to have your morning coffee anyway. Why not make it a sacred part of your day? Even if you don't have the time to sit down on the couch and read a book in the morning, take a breath. Feel your mug in your hand. Surround yourself with beautiful and comfortable things.
Take the space to take care of you.
